North Carolina Democratic Party Risks Much in Wake County Neighborhood Schools Fight
The battle being fought in Wake County, North Carolina between neighborhood school advocates and busing advocates could prove to be an extremely damaging miscalculation by the Democratic Party in North Carolina.
By choosing to make the welfare and achievement of Wake County's low-income students a partisan battlefield the Democrats may be sowing the seeds of their own demise for the very fact that the data does not support the position into which they are investing their fate.
The fact that low-income and minority students perform worse in Wake County than in even some of the poorest counties in North Carolina is irrefutable.
So instead of trying to refute the data the Democrats have turned to obfuscation and semantics in an oftentimes surreal and disturbing attempt to prevent the dismantling of the faux-perfect performance of Wake County Public Schools and the generations of students it has allowed to waste away in its classrooms.
Enter the North Carolina NAACP as the marines to storm the Wake School Board beachhead and catch the bullets.
Either the NC NAACP owes someone in the Democratic party a huge favor or they don't mind looking like buffoons advocating to keeping low-income and minority students at some of the lowest levels of performance and graduation rates in the state.
Carrying the banner of "Diversity" they may as well be carrying a banner that says "Poor Black Kids Can't Learn."
Notice how no "real politician" has risked wading in to the fray. They are willing to sit on the sidelines and see what happens just a bit longer.
I am an independent and probably lean Democrat (North Carolina Democrat) most of the time but if the Democrats don't find a way to change course on this issue they risk alienating those of us that actually care about Wake County's Students more than illusion of perfection and false legacy the Democrats are striving to protect.
